Hut Trip #2--Walter's Cabin

This past weekend, Adam had his first hut trip with students. The sixth grade telemark skied to various locations close by for a night at one of these gorgeous huts.

The two-mile hike, a relatively short one compared to some of the other groups, turned into a 5-hour long excursion because of 20 mile per hour head winds and blowing snow. Needless to say, they were all very happy to see the hut come into view!
These pictures all came from the next day when it was sunny with no wind. Much more pleasant!

Lunch on the deck. 25 degrees isn't so bad when the sun is beating down on your back and there's no wind to blow snow in your face.

Comparison or Holy Toledo! That's a lot of snow!

I think I underestimated what 4 feet of snow can look like in reality.
Here we have two sets of pictures. The really colorful ones were taken just 5 months ago during my parent's first visit. The blurry, all white ones were taken last week. They are from the same park, the same objects. I'm not putting the pictures up because of how good they are, they are actually extremely average, what with the color and lighting issues. I put them here to show just how much stinking snow we've gotten since it started snowing Thanksgiving weekend.

Please note, friends and family: I am fine with all this snow! If we didn't have it, we would have no reason to be here because there wouldn't be enough kids for a school! Besides, skiing is pretty fun, and snow is definitely needed for that.

So far, so good

Potty training. Day 1.

Underwear, no good. We're going the bare-route.
Besides, I just can't resist that cute tush!

He will so hate me some day for these. I figure by that time, though, blogging will be a thing of the past.

But I can always whip these out to embarrass him in front of his fiancee.
Did I just say fiancee? ACK! He's only two for Pete's sake!
sigh.....They just grow up so fast.

Addison around 1 month old.

Coaxing laugher

Getting Owen to smile is no difficult task.
Unless he doesn't want to.

Then he's like most 4 year olds.
Very, very stubborn.

Unless you put on a little pressure.
Like in the form of, say, tickle torture....

Then we start to see a little progress,
until Bingo!

The belly laugh!

Kidisms

I love it when little ones are just learning to talk. Not all words come out clearly, and sometimes parents just have to guess what it is their little precious is saying.
Addison has an unusually high appreciation for boxed Mac 'n Cheese. He literally ate half the pan yesterday. After much deliberation on what he could possibly be jabbering on about, I figured it out.
Macky wackin cheeeeeese=Mac 'n Cheese

Makes sense to me!

The Big Switch

Moving to Korea brought many, many changes for our family.
One of those changes was that Emma and Owen (then 4 years old and 20 months old, respectively) had to share a room for the first time. It worked out in the long run, but it was a tough transition, as any parent who has had to do this will tell you.
Long, drawn out bedtimes. Different sleep schedules and body clocks. Sound issues.
But, like I said, it finally worked itself out.
When we moved to a new apartment, right before Addison was born, they got their own rooms back, briefly. Then 1-month-old Addison decided he didn't want to share a room with his brother and back Emma and Owen happily went. And that's pretty much the way it's been.
Until last week.
Emma and Addison changed places.
Emma now has her own room, decorated just the way she likes it.

And Owen and Addison are in the "boys' room" now. They're enjoying it.

We were even crazy enough to switch Addison to a toddler bed while we were at it. Doesn't it look like it's working? He is just cool as a cucumber in his big boy bed. Yep. And he's not having any trouble at all staying in it and going to sleep. Nope, none at all.
Can't you tell??

The following situation is the result of no naps for 4 days. This picture was taken at 4:15 after 2 hours spent playing the nap-time-tug-of-war with Mommy.

As a side note, today he got it! Nap time was 3 hours long, I had to wake him, and bedtime was even fairly easy. Whew! We're getting there.
